Building an Eco Lodge in Ban Longlao Mai

Posted on January 17, 2013 by Adri Berger in Advertising, Films, General, Published Works, Travels

I have made several films for World Volunteer an organisation from Sweden. I started last year on a short, showing their effort to built a school in Ban Na Luang in the northern part of Laos. The material used is clay and the workers to help achieve the goals are from different parts of the world. This year they are building an eco lodge in a village not too far out from Luang Prabang in Laos. The lodge will help earn money for the village fund which in turn will be used to invest into improving life in the village.

This year several groups came to help and I made three short cuts showing the different groups in the same environment expressing their thoughts and motivations.
In case this material has aroused your curiosity and you’d like to know more about this organisation please check their webpages;

I directed and filmed this work, the edits were done by my assistant Ka Xiong.

    Reading for on the Road

    Just finished reading Shadows and Wind, a book by Robert Templer who lived in Hanoi from 1994-97. He’s been a correspondent in Hong Kong, China, Laos and other countries. Anyone visiting Vietnam may be interested in reading this book, a modern view on the country.

    More Reading – Lao Roots

    by Fleur Brofos Asmussen
    When the author finds out about the roots of her mother, that she was a child from a Laotian woman and her grandfather a Norwegian trader, she embarks on a long journey to find out about her past.
    This books delves in to the adventurous lives of her ancestors and reveal the roots of her own life. I enjoyed reading the book and living in Luang Prabang it helped to give more insight into Indochine and perceptions at the time in Europe. Great 'on the road book'.
